SAILING GLOSSARIES by Emile R Schamp

Essential guides for anyone sailing away from home

Compiled for sailors by sailors, our sailing glossaries cover most situations found when sailing.

The Sailing Companion (English/French) was first published in 2004. Miles Kendall (Assistant Editor of Yachting Monthly) said this about it:

This bilingual dictionary is crammed full of nautical vocabulary and with hundreds of colour photographs will easily earn its berth on any vessel cruising French waters. Don’t go into a fournisseur de marine (chandlery) without it.

Although I'm the author of 'The Shell Channel Pilot', I'm like most British sailors. I manage to get by in French but my vocabulary is terrible, so let's raise a glass of Bordeaux's finest to Emile, who has stepped up to the plate and saved us from ourselves.

Tom Cunliffe, 2012

Several glossaries are now available:

- The Sailing Companion (English/French)
